Congressman's determination on exposing collusion welcomed

20 March, 2015 - by Chris Hazzard

Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed remarks made by US Congressman Chris Smith that his committee was “not gonna let up” until all the information about the killing of Pat Finucane is “laid bare” and the people responsible are held to account.

 Mr Hazzard said,

“Congressman Chris Smith’s comments on the back of testimony of Geraldine Finucane and Anne Cadwallader to the Helsinki Committee in Washington are to be welcomed.

“The British Government have reneged on a pledge for an inquiry into the killing of Pat Finucane agreed at the Weston Park talks in 2001.

“Since then the family have campaigned for the British Government to live up to its commitment and hold the inquiry. This is now the ninth time that the family have updated this committee.

“I welcome the determination of Congressman Smith and his colleagues to maintain the pressure on the British Government until the truth about collusion with Unionist death squads is made public and the families get the truth about the death of their loved ones.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
