Austerity offers nothing but a race to the bottom

20 March, 2015

Sinn Féin’s Declan Kearney has said increased austerity offers nothing more than a political and economic race to the bottom.

Speaking at the launch of his Westminster election campaign in South Antrim, Mr Kearney said;

“We are living in a cruel age of austerity as a result of the policies of the Tory-led British government in London.

“The increased austerity we face offers nothing but the potential to drive us into a political and economic race to the bottom.

“That is simply not an option for Sinn Féin, whether it’s here in South Antrim or anywhere else throughout the length and breadth of Ireland.

“We are standing up for equality because we care about people. We are opposing austerity because it is the right thing to do.

“There is an alternative. We need to stand together, republicans, nationalists, unionists, loyalists and everyone in society and face outwards.

“If we stand together we can create a better society for all our people, a society which cherishes all the children of the nation equally.

“We are creating a society where there is no place for bigotry, intolerance, sectarianism, homophobia or inequality towards everyone.

“That is the vision Sinn Féin is taking forward into this election.” Ends / Críoch
