Agnew’s focus should be on protecting the vulnerable – Murphy
Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy said today the focus of Green Party leader Steven Agnew should be on protecting the most vulnerable rather than making misinformed comment on the Stormont House Agreement.
Conor Murphy said:
“The only part of Steven Agnew’s comment based on fact is that he wasn’t in the talks.
“I was in the talks and I can assure everyone that Sinn Féin’s focus at all times was to protect the most vulnerable in society – children with disabilities, adults with severe disabilities, the long-term sick and families with children – against the ravages of the Tory cuts.
“His attack on Sinn Féin over the figures contained in the Agreement is completely disingenuous.
“Steven Agnew was working off the same figures supplied to Sinn Féin and the other Executive parties by the Minister for the Department for Social Development, the source of the figures contained in the Agreement.
“The focus for Sinn Féin in the current talks remains the protection of children with disabilities, adults with severe disabilities, the long-term sick and large families.
“I would urge Steven Agnew and others who signed the petition of concern to block the passage of the welfare bill to work with us to achieve those protections from the Tory cuts for the most vulnerable.”
