Latest HSE scandal evidence of continued "cronyism" - Adams

23 March, 2015 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams has said reports that HSE inquiries were commissioned without a competitive tendering process and that consultants are being paid fees of up to €1,000 a day is evidence of cronyism and 'jobs for the boys'.

Mr Adams says he intends raising the matter with Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Gerry Adams said:

"I think citizens who have endured cuts to public services and who face water charge bills will be outraged at reports that HSE inquiries were commissioned without a competitive tendering process and that consultants are being paid fees of up to €1,000 a day.

"Many of these are reported to be former HSE staff. This is unacceptable.

"It is further evidence of cronyism and 'jobs for the boys' in the system. This Government said it would end all of this.

"We needs answers from the HSE. We need political accountability and I will be demanding answers from the Taoiseach on this scandal this week."
