Mitchell and Mac Donncha selected to run in Dublin Bay North
Dublin Sinn Féin has selected Dublin City Councillors Denise Mitchell and Micheál Mac Donncha to be the party’s candidates in the Dublin Bay North constituency at next General Election
Party members chose the councillors at a selection convention chaired by Seán Crowe TD.
Speaking after the convention Cllr Mitchell said:
“It is a huge honour to be selected to represent Sinn Féin and this community in the Dublin Bay North constituency for the upcoming General Election.
I was raised in Dublin Bay North, I live here with my family and work here as Sinn Féin councillor in the Beaumont /Donaghmede ward.
I will be the voice for those who have suffered under the current austerity agenda, the elderly lying on hospital trolleys, the families living in hotel rooms, the families struggling to pay bills and burdened with mortgage debt.
Sinn Féin want to implement and promote a fair recovery for all.
As the largest party on Dublin City Council, Sinn Féin has proved that we are more than capable of delivering good governance. We Introduced a progressive budget which increased spend on homeless services and reduced the commercial rate without any cut to frontline services. This also included a reduction to the LPT by 15%.”
Cllr Mac Donncha raised the issue of the housing crisis in the capital. He said:
"The priority issue in this constituency as far as I am concerned is the housing crisis. People in private rented accommodation are being forced into homelessness due to uncontrolled rent rises.
We need urgent action to control rents and we need a real housing programme to provide council homes for the thousands on housing waiting lists."
