McLaughlin to look at Scottish model of tackling health inequalities
Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin will travel to Scotland this week to look at how health inequalities are tackled there.
The chair of the Assembly's health committee said;
"I will be travelling to Scotland next week to examine the work carried out in tackling health inequalities.
"This is one of the main issues we face in our health service with the inequalities at their most stark in west Belfast, north Belfast and Foyle.
"This visit will build on the work already being carried out with the Healthy Living Alliance in the North and representatives from the healthy living centres will be in attendance.
"There are 14 healthy living centres in the North that provide a model of grass roots health delivery based on a model that targets inequalities.
"This visit to Scotland will provide an opportunity to meet with Scottish government officials to discuss preventative spend and meet community-based organisations in Scotland who are dealing with health inequalities on the ground."
