Step Inn Inquests must proceed
Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has said the preliminary inquests into the killings of Elizabeth McDonald and Gerard McGleenan at the Step Inn Keady must not be delayed given the HET has called the RUC’s handling of this case “catastrophic”.
Mr Brady said:
“The attack on the Step Inn at Keady in August 1976 was carried out with the full knowledge of the RUC Special Branch.
“They did nothing to prevent the subsequent deaths of Elizabeth McDonald and Gerard McGleenan.
“This attack was carried out by serving members of the RUC and UDR. And the car used in the attack was stolen from a serving RUC officer days before.
“A recent HET inquiry into the RUC investigation was described as catastrophic.
“It is essential therefore that not only does the preliminary inquest go ahead tomorrow but that a date is set for the inquest proper.”
