Welcome for ethnic minority integration fund

27 March, 2015 - by Bronwyn McGahan

Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan has welcomed the announcement that £1.1million will be made available for community and voluntary groups working with ethnic minorities.

 Ms. McGahan said,

“As our society becomes more and more diverse with people from different nations and cultures coming to work, be educated and set up home here we need to ensure these people are made welcome and are able to become part of our society.

“This fund will allow groups working with ethnic minorities to help build social cohesion and promote better relations.

“Many of the people who come here provide essential skills to areas like the health service and need to be valued and treated with equality and respect.

“As we have seen a rise in racial attacks it is becoming more important that the work these support organisations provide is supported so this money is not only timely but welcomed.

“I would urge groups in this sector to apply for funding by  downloading an application form on www.ofmdfmni.gov.uk/index/equality/race/minorityethnicfunding.htm or email [email protected] for more information.”
