Construction of primary care centre should create local jobs in Corduff- Paul Donnelly
Dublin West Sinn Féin representative Cllr Paul Donnelly joined local Corduff residents on Monday 30th March to call for local jobs during the construction of the Corduff Primary Care Centre.
Cllr Donnelly said:
"I have engaged with the architects and the HSE since the planning stage of this project and with the initial community meetings facilitated in the Corduff Resource centre last year".
"During the past number of months, we have had a significant number of people into our office inquiring about how they could get employment at the new Primary Care Centre site. We set up a register of interests and then tried to initiate talks with the builder who was awarded the contracts.
"Sinn Féin consistently called for local employment to try to alleviate the chronic unemployment among former construction workers living in Corduff and surrounding areas".
"I had hoped that the goodwill shown to the project by the local community would open up the possibilities of the contractor taking on locally based trade people and labourers".
"Unfortunately, despite many attempts via phone and letter to the contractors they have not replied once to any of our attempts to open up some dialogue".
"We are still open to talks and I will also be engaging with the HSE who are funding this project to try to get local employment. “
