Dublin City Council confirm tenant details were given to Irish Water- Cllr Doolan
Dublin City Council has confirmed that it has shared the contact details tenants with Irish Water.
Councillor Daithí Doolan said:
“City Council tenants received bills from Irish Water today with their names and addresses on the bill. Tenants are furious and very upset that Dublin City Council and other local authorities have given their contact details over to Irish Water without their permission or prior knowledge.
“I spoke to the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council today and he confirmed they handed over the contact details a number of weeks ago in line with government legislation.
“Sinn Féin opposed this legislation when it was being debated in the Dáil. But unfortunately government TDs voted in favour of the water charges and the handing over of contact details of council tenants.
I consider this a serious infringement of people’s rights. It clearly shows just how desperate this government are to impose their unwanted and unacceptable water charges.
“I have been contacted by tenants since early this morning, shocked and angry that their details are now with Irish Water. But it has only fired people up to oppose this charge.
“Sinn Féin will be raising the issue at the forthcoming City Council meeting and at other local authority meetings across and outside Dublin.”
