2 April, 2015 - by Gerry Kelly

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said only Sinn Féin is offering progressive politics in the face of British government austerity.

Speaking after lodging his nomination papers alongside fellow Belfast Sinn Féin candidates Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, Paul Maskey and Naill Ó Donnghaile, Mr Kelly said;

"This election offers the people of Belfast an historic opportunity to change how they are represented.

"It could result in the situation where for the first time Belfast does not elect negative unionism.

"Sinn Féin offers progressive politics, opposing austerity and standing up for the most vulnerable in society.

"A vote for Sinn Féin is a vote to reject austerity, exclusion and inequality.

"Our policies are about putting people first, providing a strong voice for the vulnerable and challenging sectarianism, racism and homophobia.

"We are committed to defending the core public services of health. education and the welfare system.

"Sinn Féin is transforming society for the better throughout Ireland and we want to continue to do that so we are appealing to voters to help is make that change by voting Sinn Féin on May 7."Ends/Críoch
