Condolences to families after road deaths

6 April, 2015 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has offered his condolences to the families of three men who died in different traffic accidents in Antrim and called for people to take care while driving.

 Mr McMullan said,

“My heart goes out to the families of those who died and those who were seriously injured in two separate traffic accidents in the last day.

“I know the family of the young men who was killed on the Cushendall Road last night as well as some of those seriously injured.  I am praying that those injured will make a full recovery.

“My thoughts are also with the family of a motorcyclist who died yesterday in Belfast as these fatalities underscore how easy accidents can happen with tragic outcomes.

“I would appeal to all motorists whether they are new to driving or driving a lifetime to think about safety when taking to the road by reducing speed, wearing a seatbelt and ensuring their vehicle is road worthy and not to be distracted while driving.

“Last year seen an increase in the amount of deaths on our roads after a period of decreasing fatalities and we all have a responsibility to work to get that downward trend back in order to save lives.”
