Sinn Féin committed to equality and opposing austerity - Kelly

7 April, 2015 - by Gerry Kelly

 Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said Sinn Féin is committed to equality and opposed to all forms of discrimination.

Mr Kelly said;

"Sinn Féin is determined to build a fairer society for everyone.

"We are totally committed to equality and opposed to all forms of discrimination.

"Sinn Féin stands firm against sectarianism, racism and homophobia in our drive to create an inclusive society based tolerance and respect.

"That is equality for everybody.  That requires increased dialogue and engagement. It means setting aside assumptions about unionists and listening to what they have to say.

"It also means listening to all of the voices within our diverse society.

"The mandate Sinn Féin is seeking in the upcoming Westminster election is for equality and against austerity.

"We want the economic levers to create sustain growth.

"The Tories and the alliance of the DUP and UUP however, are seeking to continue with austerity policies, which will cut our public services, destroy the welfare state and force citizens into deeper hardship.

"That is what they are offering voters in North Belfast, Fermanagh/South Tyrone and elsewhere.

"That is not the Sinn Féin way. Our progressive politics is about protecting the most vulnerable and putting the needs of people first."
