Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty has this morning launched the Water Services Repeal Bill which he says Sinn Féin will enact in government if given a mandate to do so in the upcoming general election.
Speaking from Dublin today Deputy Doherty said;
“Irish people have marched in their hundreds of thousands against water charges. Sinn Féin has marched with them.
“We have also committed to scrapping the charges if in a position to do so after the next election.
“This is the bill which we will enact in order to do that. We are now seeking a mandate from the people to enact this bill and scrap water charges once and for all.
“It is clear that the government does not have the support of the people for its water charges. This election provides the people with an opportunity to vote the charges out.
“Enda Kenny should call the election and give the people their say on this issue.”
