Cllr Malachy Quinn calls for Rush waste water treatment plant to be prioritised
Fingal Sinn Féin councillor Malachy Quinn has been made aware of an EPA Report due to be published in the coming weeks which will class the water on Rush’s South Beach as of " Poor Quality".
A previous EPA report in 2013 blamed pump failure for bad water quality on the beach but did not consider the raw sewage from up to 9,500 people that was being pumped into the Irish Sea to be a factor.
Cllr Quinn stated
“The current situation in regards to wastewater treatment or lack thereof has been an issue for a number of years. Councillors on the previous council raised their concerns in relation to this, yet the citizens of Rush are still awaiting a waste water treatment facility'.
'The people of Rush have waited too long for a fully functioning waste water treatment plant. The sight of raw sewage in the Harbour is one of the most pressing issues in the Rush Area, the development of a waste water treatment plant must be at the heart of the county development plan for the area.'
Cllr Quinn concluded
'Rush must be prioritised, we cannot have the town hitting the headlines again as a location in Fingal and nationally that fails to reach mandatory Environmental Protection Agency Standards on the quality of bathing water in the State'
