McCorley welcomes meeting with Irish Language Commissioner
Sinn Féin MLA Rosie McCorley has welcomed Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín's meeing with Irish Language Commissioner Rónán Ó Domhnaill.
The West Belfast MLA said;
"Today's meeting between Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín and An Coimisinéir Teanga, Rónán Ó Domhnaill, is a welcome step forward in the campaign towards an Irish Language Act in the North.
"One of the suggestions included in the proposals for an Irish Language Act is the appointment of an Irish language commissioner for the North.
"It is important that the minister learns from the experience of the commissioner in the 26 counties and how the position has assisted the growth and development of the Irish language.
"The consultation on the proposed Irish Language Act, including plans for an Irish Language Commissioner for the North, is open until May 5 and I would encourage as many people as possible to take part and have their say."
