Nigel Dennehy selected to contest next General Election in Cork North West for Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin has selected Nigel Dennehy to contest the next General Election in the constituency of Cork North West.
Mr Dennehy (27) was selected at a convention held at the Riverside Park Hotel in Macroom tonight.
The Convention was also attended by Sandra McLellan TD.
Speaking after the convention, Mr Dennehy said;
“I am honoured to have been selected to contest the next general election in this constituency for Sinn Féin.
“This will an extremely important election, one which will see a battle for hearts and minds like never before.
“My message to the people of North West Cork will be a republican message. We need a government that will put the interests of ordinary people and rural Ireland over the needs of the self-serving elites.
“The well-being of our communities, town and villages can no longer be sacrificed at the behest of the golden circles.
“We hear Fine Gael and Labour talking about a recovery but working people and those living in poverty have yet to see any sign of it.
“The people of this constituency only see their communities being decimated by the policies of this government.
“They feel marginalised and abandoned by the lack of investment in infrastructure and the stripping of vital public services. Mothers and fathers see their children emigrating for lack of a job and poverty is ever increasing.
“I want to be TD for this constituency so I can fight for a fair recovery. I want to defend those public services that are under a sustained attack from the conservative, regressive forces in government.
“Sinn Féin has a vision for a fairer Ireland and a new republic.
“I want to bring that vision to doors of Cork North West. I want to convince people that a progressive, fairer way of governing is possible with a Sinn Féin led government.”
