Sinn Féin to challenge council management on handing tenants details over to Irish Water - Doolan

11 April, 2015 - by Daithí Doolan

Sinn Féin will be challenging Dublin City Council's decision to hand over tenants’ details to Irish Water.

Speaking today, Cllr. Daithí Doolan said:

“It is unacceptable that manage at Dublin City Council hands over personal details of local authority tenants. This was done without prior knowledge or seeking the consent of the tenants.

“Sinn Féin have tabled an Emergency Motion for this Monday's Dublin City Council meeting.

“We firmly believe that this contravenes data protection. Also, best practise would ensure that tenants would have been contacted before details were handed over.

“Tenants are furious that details were handed over to an independent utility. This is an unprecedented and unacceptable shift in public policy. Dublin City Council should be protecting people’s personal details not handing them over to Irish Water.

“We will be looking for independent legal opinion to ensure best practise governs the protection of tenants’ personal details.”
