Graham welcomes Liffey Valley Centre expansion and calls for local jobs
Local Sinn Féin Cllr Jonathan Graham has welcomed plans to expand Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.
Cllr Graham said;
“The announcement by Hines, Hail and Grosvenor Britain and Ireland is to be welcomed. The Liffey Valley Centre is an integral part of our local economy and the wider Clondalkin and Lucan area. It is home to many leading anchor brands and several hundred employees.
The expansion will add further employment. It will bring with it more anchor brands. Thus, the reported 450 jobs and 225 construction jobs throughout are also to be welcomed. I am in the process of making contact with the aforementioned stakeholders to organise a meeting to discuss the local employment opportunities arising from this expansion.
Local jobs can not only be delivered in the full and part time retail positions but in the construction phase of the development. Clondalkin and the surrounding areas are home to many capable and qualified tradespeople. I am calling that a social clause becomes part of the tendering process for this project.
I have tabled a motion for debate at the next Clondalkin Area Committee calling on the stakeholders to engage with representatives on the potential for local employment in both the initial construction phase and retail. Alongside this, I have contacted the management of the centre to seek dialogue about this too.”
