Rights of citizens must be asserted over entitlements of elites - McDonald
Sinn Féin TD Mary Lou McDonald has said the rights of citizens need to be asserted over the entitlements of elites.
Speaking at the launch of Sinn Féin's Westminster election candidates in Belfast, Ms McDonald said;
"We want to end austerity and replace it with prosperity, growth and equality. That means we need the powers to do it back from London.
"We need to assert the rights of citizens over the entitlements of elites.
"This election allows the people in the north to say no to austerity and no to a British government imposing undemocratic policies on the people here.
"It will also send a message to David Cameroon and Ed Miliband that the future belongs to the people who share this island not the millionaires and old boys club.
"We will be fighting a by election in Carlow/Kilkenny with the potential of a delivering a knock-out blow to Kenny’s discredited policies of austerity.
"In the coming weeks we can stand together across the island to end austerity and deliver a fair recovery and a republic for all."
