Concerns raised for services in South County Dublin over bus route privatisation- Cllr Sarah Holland
Local Sinn Féin Cllr Sarah Holland has today expressed concerns over the privatisation of 10% of Dublin Bus Routes.
Cllr Holland said:
“I’m with the drivers on this. Privatisation has failed miserably wherever it has been applied in this state, be it health service, bin collections or transport.
The No.75 is a well-used service which is relied upon by people right across the South Dublin County area – I use it myself to get to and from my council meetings.
I am gravely concerned that the routes would disappear if a private operator decided that they were not profitable.
Our buses are a public service and should remain so. The removal of these routes from Dublin Bus would leave a surplus of drivers, who would then fear for their jobs.
I would call on the National Transport Authority to engage in meaningful discussion with the drivers, and to take their concerns on board.
If they don’t, I will firmly support any industrial action the drivers decide to take”
