Arrest of water meter protesters is a travesty – Aengus Ó Snodaigh
Sinn Féin's Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has condemned this morning’s arrest of 13 anti water meter protesters in Crumlin.
Speaking from Crumlin Ó Snodaigh said:
"This morning’s arrests are a travesty. Using the Public Order Act on legitimate protesters is a direct attack on democracy itself. Tonight’s demonstration, against these arrests, outside Crumlin Garda Station sends out a clear signal that people will not be bullied or criminalised.
"Communities will not be divided or distracted by these arrests. Sinn Féin will stand shoulder to shoulder with residents in peaceful protest against the installation of these unwanted water meters.
"The blame for these arrests lie at the feet of this government who continue to impose meters on households. This government must review its policy on water charges. The charges need to be scrapped and Irish Water shut down."
