McMullan urges ministerial intervention over Glenariff phone mast
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has asked Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill to intervene to ensure there is no loss of mobile phone coverage in the Glenariff area.
The East Antrim candidate said;
"Glenariff is a rural area and adequate mobile phone coverage is essential for everyone in the community.
"The owners of a telecommunications mast at Glenariff have been told by their landlord that the mast will have to be dismantled by October.
"The loss of this mast and the service it provides would have a huge impact on the local area.
"It is crucial that people living in the area have access to effective mobile phone coverage in their everyday lives, but also in case they need to contact the emergency services.
"Farmers depend on it to conduct their business and it is also vital for farm safety in the case of accidents.
"This is also an area that is becoming increasingly popular with tourists and if we are to continue to develop our tourism industry good mobile phone coverage is required.
"I have asked my party colleague, Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill to intervene on this issue as a matter of urgency so that the coverage can be retained in the area."
