Martin Ferris TD calls for land eligibility amnesty
Sinn Féin spokesman on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Ferris TD, today reiterated his call for an amnesty for farmers being asked to pay back basic payments as a result of unclear criteria for land eligibility.
Deputy Ferris said;
“Now, under pressure, Simon Coveney is promising a review and tolerance for those farmers with less than 10% ineligible land.
“I have repeatedly called for an independent review body to be set up to draw up proper, fair and clear criteria for farmers and for an amnesty for those who have been penalised even though they claimed in good faith.
“The government concession now that there were problems with the criteria surely points to the need for an amnesty and the need for clarity from here on.”
