Clarke expresses condolences after fire tragedy

23 April, 2015 - by Mary Clarke

Sinn Féin Councillor Mary Clarke has said the news that a woman has died in the latest serious house fire in recent weeks in Rosapenna Parade in the Oldpark area of north Belfast is heart-breaking.

Mary Clarke said:

“I understand that a local woman has lost her life in this incident and my sympathies go to her family and neighbours.

“The fire and rescue service attended the blaze but sadly on this occasion the woman’s life couldn’t be saved.

“I wish to pay tribute to the emergency services who recently rescued a family of three in Ardoyne from a major house fire.

“It’s too early in this stage of the investigation to say how this fire started or if a fire alarm was installed in the home.

“However, I would repeat appeals for people to install a smoke alarm and test that it is working regularly.”
