Cllr Chris Curran "dismayed" at removal of Yes posters in Stepaside Village
Sinn Féin Sandyford- Glencullen Councillor Chris Curran voiced his dismay and frustration at the removal of approximately 16 Sinn Féin posters from Stepaside Village that called for a Yes vote in the Marriage Equality referendum.
Cllr Curran said:
"Last night the posters were mounted, in accordance with the rules. I went the shops this afternoon to find the all our posters have been removed.
Immediately, I drove to other parts of the constituency to find our other posters intact.
It’s clear that some small minded individuals would prefer the Yes side not to have its say in the upcoming referendum.
checked with the council just in case the posters were removed for some obscure
but legal reason - they haven't.
This afternoon I reported the issue to Dundrum Gardaí. I want this matter investigated thoroughly and I'm confident the CCTV in the local shops might have captured the removal.
I'm really bewildered as to why anybody would want voters not to be fully informed. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but the removal of posters is the worst type of censorship.”
