Mayor Warfield launches Mayors for Marriage Equality
Mayor of South Dublin County Council and Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure Fintan Warfield today launched an initiative titled Mayors for Marriage Equality.
Mayor Fintan Warfield was joined on the steps of the Mansion House by seven other Mayors from across the state as they launched their campaign calling for a resounding yes vote ahead of the May 22nd referendum.
Speaking during the launch, Cllr. Warfield said;
"Mayors for Marriage Equality are advocating for a Yes vote ahead of the May 22nd marriage equality referendum.
"As an openly gay Mayor of a local authority in Ireland, I am proud to stand alongside Mayors and Cathaoirligh from across this state in calling for a Yes vote.
“Mayorsformarriage.org presents an opportunity for civic society to actively engage and lobby their Mayors in support of civil marriage equality"
“It is the hope of the fourteen Mayors supporting this campaign to use our role in public life to play a small part in supporting equality.
"We know many gay and lesbian people living in our towns and cities who are in loving relationships and who are active participants in those communities. They and future generations deserve to be able to marry the person with whom they share their lives".
