Lynn Boylan MEP supports striking bus drivers
Dublin Sinn Féin MEP will today support striking bus drivers on the picket line as they take industrial action against the proposed privatisation plans.
Ms Boylan said:
“Today’s strike by bus drivers is a direct result of this government’s decision to begin to privatise bus routes across the state.
“Workers and their unions are justifiably concerned and the Minister for Transport has clearly failed to allay these fears.
“Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann provide an essential service to the people of the country. While it is unfortunate that the strike will cause major disruption to many commuters across the state, the privatisation of these vital services will inevitably cost the public more.
“Higher fares for consumers, coupled with lower wages and worse conditions for the staff has been the result of many ill-fated privatisation schemes across Europe.”
“The government should listen to the concerns of bus drivers on this issue and roll back on its privatisation plans and come up with a real investment plan for public transport.”
