Job losses a blow to east Belfast - Ó Donnghaile

1 May, 2015 - by Mairead O’Donnell

Sinn Féin councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has said the closure of the Howden engineering factory in east Belfast will be a blow to the local economy.

The East Belfast candidate said;

"News that the Howden factory is to close in east Belfast with the loss of around 100 jobs is a blow to the local economy.

"This firm has been in the area for many years, previously as the Sirocco Works and more recently as Howden.

"I would call on management at the firm to liaise with staff and unions over the coming weeks.

"Steps must also be taken to ensure the workers are offered the opportunity to retrain or upskill to help them in their search for new jobs."
