Stanley accuses Labour Minister of ‘spearheading’ austerity measures
Sinn Féin spokesperson on the Environment, Brian Stanley TD today challenged the Tánaiste on the proposed new debt collection arrangements for unpaid water bills, and the fact that her deputy leader Alan Kelly is reported to be ‘spearheading’ the introduction of draconian legislation to take the money out of the wages of the low paid and those on pensions.
Deputy Stanley said:
“Will Tánaiste clarify if the long promised Water Services Bill will include such powers, or whether that would be left to be included in the proposed Civil Debt Procedure Bill?
“I am also calling on the Tánaiste to clarify whether private and local authority tenants will be included in such legislation, and if that is the case will she ensure that such threats are removed?”
