Curran welcomes council's commitment to Sandyford playground

12 May, 2015 - by Chris Curran

Sinn Féin councillor, Chris Curran has welcomed Dún Laoghaire Rathdown county council's commitment to look favourably on the provision a children's playground in Moreen Blackthorn estate, in lieu of the loss of a casual play area.

The commitment comes as part of a council decision which saw significant local objections from some residents.

Cllr Curran said:

“We were hoping the council would consider moving the development of a local authority house with disabled access to a more appropriate site in the same estate.

“Parking, access, site-lines and the loss of the children's play area were key points against the development.

"I and my party are strongly in favour of the development of social housing and I must stress that I want to see this development go ahead but felt there were more appropriate sites in the same estate.

“The council voted to approve the development, against the wishes of local residents but agreed to look favourably on the implementation of a playground which I welcome.”
