Foster creating unnecessary fear and anxiety in farming communities - McAleer
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has said finance minister Arlene Foster is attempting to muddy the waters on the DUP's roll-over on Tory cuts to public services and welfare protections.
Mr McAleer said;
"I welcome the reassurance from Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill today that the Single Farm payment process will go ahead as planned.
"The minister has made it clear that Single Farm Payments come from the European Commission and are administered by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
"Arlene Foster’s effort to link the payments in the public mind to the issue of welfare cuts has created unnecessary fear and anxiety in farming and agricultural communities.
“It was a cynical attempt by Ms Foster and her DUP colleagues to muddy the waters on her party’s rollover on Tory cuts to public services in the North and on welfare protections for the most vulnerable in society.
“The very real problem facing the Executive’s budget is the £1.5bn in Tory cuts to the block grant and the £25bn in cuts being planned by the Tory cabinet which will decimate our public services and hurt the most vulnerable in society.”
