Fearon challenges DRD minister over south Armagh roads

27 May, 2015 - by Megan Fearon

Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has challenged Roads Minister Danny Kennedy over the condition of roads in south Armagh.

Ms Fearon said;

"Motorists and other road users in many parts of south Armagh have raised concerns about the state of the roads throughout the area.

"I met with Road Minister Danny Kennedy alongside my party colleague and Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady at Stormont this week to discuss the poor condition of the roads.

"At the meeting I handed the minister a list of 33 roads across south Armagh which are in urgent need of repair.

"The poor state of the roads clearly poses a safety risk for both drivers and pedestrians, including cyclists, wheelchair users and people pushing prams as they try to navigate around potholes and badly patched surfaces.

"The appalling state of some of the roads is also damaging vehicles leaving motorists with costly repair bills for fixing damaged tyres.

"The minister has a responsibility to manage his budget to ensure that all roads are in a safe condition.

"I will continue to lobby to make sure he takes action to bring the roads of south Armagh up to an acceptable standard."
