Louise O 'Reilly commends the Fingal Sinn Fein team's Emergency Motion on Aer Lingus sell off
Sinn Féin's Dublin Fingal candidate Louise O'Reilly commended theFingal Sinn Féin team on the successful passing last night at the special meeting of Fingal County Council of an emergency motion expressing the grave concerns at the selloff of the remaining 25.1% share in Aer Lingus by the Government.
O Reilly stated:
“The motion below was very important as it expressed the real and serious concerns of the people of Fingal in relation to the Heathrow connectivity as well as the future of the employees of Aer Lingus who in the main are residents of the outlying towns and villages of Fingal, the knock on effect to the local Businesses in the County will be felt harshly over the coming years.'
The Motion read:
"That this Council expresses its extreme disappointment at the decision of this Government to sell off our final stake in Aer Lingus and are gravely concerned at Ireland’s connectivity into the future as well as the threat it poses to workers in Aer Lingus and to the deferred pension members of the Airline"
“The debate & passing of the motion by 18 votes to 4 was somewhat over shadowed by the fact that the Labour councillors did not attend the meeting and in doing so, did not take the opportunity to engage in the discussions on the merits of the sell off.'
