Brady welcomes DARD Rural Broadband Investment
Sinn Féin's Mickey Brady MP/MLA has welcomed Minister Michelle O'Neill's recent announcement that she is to invest a further £1 Million into rural broadband provision. Responding to the Newry/Armagh representative during assembly question time, Rural Minister Michelle O'Neill committed the further investment as part of her Tackling Rural Poverty and Social Isolation programme.
Mr Brady said:
"I welcome this latest commitment of a further significant investment into rural broadband. This is a campaign which my party has been leading in recent years. Minister O'Neill confirmed to me that 4591 premises across Newry/Armagh have already benefited from previous DARD investment, and I am pleased to learn that this further funding will assist in delivering broadband access to many more homes across the north.
"I also welcome Minister O'Neill's commitment to allocate £2 million from the new Rural Development Programme into tackling 'harder to get areas'. Greater broadband provision will be welcomed right across our farming and rural communities as we become more reliant on digital connectivity. This investment will also assist in tackling rural isolation.”
