Commission of investigation must be comprehensive and deal with all of the issues – Peadar Tóibín TD
Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín has said any commission of investigation into IBRC must have a tight timeframe and that the conclusions must be published ahead of the next general election.
Speaking this evening Deputy Tóibín said;
“The Government rushed through the legislation to dissolve IBRC with an overnight sitting of the Dáil and Seanad and completely ignored the concerns raised by Sinn Féin and others at that time.
“We are now dealing with the consequences of that rushed legislation.
“The Government has tried to brass neck this controversy in the hope that it would go away.
“The insider review established by the government several weeks ago was never sufficient. We said so at the time.
“We could be weeks into an investigation had the Taoiseach taken the advice of Gerry Adams when he called for this last month.
“One month on the government now realises that this issue is not going away and has moved to establish a full commission of investigation.
“Any commission of investigation must be comprehensive, dealing with all the issues and the government must bring the terms of reference to the Dáil for debate and approval.
“There must be a tight timeframe for such an investigation and this should not be a device to push this issue back to after the general election.
“It is vitally important that the conclusions of this investigation are available to the public before they go to the polls at the next election.”
