Adams expresses condolences at death of Tommie MacNamee
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has conveyed his ‘sincere sympathies on the passing of West Tyrone veteran republican Tommie McNamee’.
Teachta Adams said:
“Ba mhaith liom mo chomhbhrón a dhéanamh leis an chlann ar fad ar bhás Tommie MacNamee.
“On behalf of Sinn Féin, I want to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Tommie’s wife May, his children Jacequeline, Michael, Barry, Emmett, Louis, Thomas, and the entire family circle.
“Tommie was one of the first ever elected Sinn Féin Councilors.
“He was proudly elected to represent the people of Glenelly valley on Strabane District Council in 1985 and remained a Councillor for Glenelly until 1989.
“Tommie was a dedicated republican who gave many years of activism to the republican struggle particularly during tough years of the conflict. On at least 2 occasions, he narrowly escaped death but continued to provide representation and give leadership.
“Tommie’s activism in Sinn Féin continued throughout his life and his advocacy work on behalf of citizens in West Tyrone and throughout the country was well known and sought after.
“Tommie will be sadly missed by all of us who had the privilege and honour to know him.
“Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam dílis.”
