Broad welcome for Dalymount Park purchase decision – Cllr Séamus McGrattan
Sinn Féin Dublin Central councillor Séamus McGrattan has broadly welcomed the Dublin City Council's decision to purchase Dalymount Park.
Speaking at the Dublin City Council meeting this evening, Cllr McGrattan said:
“I broadly welcome the council's decision. The historic park has been maintained as a sports facility. This is in keeping with it's 120 year history and it will now be safeguarded forever as a vital centre for sporting enthusiasts as well as the wider community.
“With the proposed development of the municipal sports centre, it will be a huge boost for the residents of Phibsboro.
“I do however have some concerns over the sale of the park. I would like to have further clarification on the issues of concerts for example. It is vital that we learn from past mistakes in this regard. There must be full consultation with the local community.
“I would also seek further information on the private development element of the deal.
“We must ensure that the park is available for the use of local schools and the wider community. Engagement with the residents is vital for the success of Dalymount Park and future of Bohemians FC.”
