Major investment in Richmond Barracks restoration welcomed – Cllr Críona Ní Dhálaigh

Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Críona Ní Dhálaigh has welcomed the announcement of major investment in Richmond Barracks. Speaking in a Dublin City Council meeting this evening Cllr Ní Dhálaigh said;

“I welcome this investment as it recognises the significant role of the barracks. “This is the place where in 1916, the leaders of the Easter Rising were court marshalled before they were lead to their death in Kilmainham Gaol.

 “It is an integral part of a larger historical trail. Tourists are attracted to the Inchicore area by the Guinness Storehouse as well as Kilmainham Gaol. The development of Richmond Barracks would give tourists a reason to come to Inchicore, go to the visitors centre and spend time at this community driven project.

 “It would contribute significantly to the social and cultural life of Inchicore, an area which is very disadvantaged.”
