Campaign to clear Gerald Donaghy’s name will continue
Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said that as we approach the 5th Anniversary of the publication of the Saville report he is disappointed that Lord Saville has refused to declare the innocence of Gerald Donaghy.
Mr McCartney said,
“Five years ago the British Prime Minister apologised for the murder of 14 people, including Gerald Donaghy in the Bloody Sunday massacre.
“I am therefore deeply disappointed that Lord Saville has maintained his stance that Gerald Donaghy was “probably armed with nail bombs but was not a threat at the time that he was shot”.
“It is hard to see how Lord Saville has come to that conclusion in reviewing the evidence presented to the inquiry.
“Sinn Féin will continue to do all it can in assisting the Donaghy family in clearing the name of Gerald”
