Issues with HSE care home in Co. Sligo highlighted – Ó Caoláin
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has expressed concern at HIQA findings that a HSE care centre for adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Co. Sligo was in major breach of 19 of 23 care standards assessed in the home.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said:
“HIQA has raised serious concerns over the use of drugs to restrain vulnerable residents in Cregg House and on occasion, children remaining in bed until 1pm due to a lack of staffing.
“I again call for the introduction of a Patient Safety Authority. In the interim, the HSE and the Minister need to ensure that funding to allow adequate staffing is provided. It is clear that standards are not as high as they should be in certain facilities across the state. The HSE’s own structures must put urgent measures in place to address similar issues presenting in any other unit under its remit.”
