Greyhound price increase putting further strain on Dublin families – Cllr Denise Mitchell

12 June, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Speaking from Coolock today, Dublin City Councillor Denise Mitchell and member of the Environment Special policy committee has criticised the decision by Greyhound to increase prices further.

She said,

“Sinn Féin said when Dublin City Council privatised the bins it would lead to price increases for customers.

"So it comes as no surprise to see that Greyhound Household is now increasing their prices from €7 to €9 for a black bin lift.

"Families can ill afford to pay this extra charge especially at a time when the government is trying to force them into paying unjust and unfair water charges.”

"Councillor Mitchell further added,

“The removal of the bin waiver has been an unmitigated disaster.  Greyhound are interested in profits only so again this was no surprise.

"But the Cost to the City for illegal dumping was €1.1m for 2013/2014.  The City cannot afford to be forking out these sums of money when it has a huge homeless problem.

"The further increase in prices by Greyhound will only add to this.”
