Beaumont CEO asked to confirm if 34 acute surgical beds are to be closed - Mac Donncha
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha has today received information that management at Beaumont Hospital has decided to close 34 acute surgical beds in the hospital by converting the ward to care of the elderly. Cllr. Mac Donncha has asked the CEO of the Hospital Liam Duffy to confirm if such a decision is to be implemented.
Cllr Mac Donncha said:
“Sinn Féin has received information from within Beaumont Hospital that senior management in the hospital have made a decision to 'reconfigure' 34 beds currently used for patients requiring surgery for cancer in the hospital.
“I have asked the CEO of the Hospital to confirm if this indeed is the case. As yet I have received no reply.
“Such a decision would result in the loss of 34 beds for cancer patients who need surgery. It would significantly worsen waiting lists for surgery not only in Dublin but across the country, given the range of specialities in Beaumont Hospital which is a national centre.
“I have already contacted my colleague Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson and he is to raise this matter with Minister for Health Leo Varadkar.”
