Sinn Féin supports Clerys workers – Cullinane
Sinn Féin Workers’ Rights Spokesperson Senator David Cullinane has said the party fully supports the Clerys workers in their struggle for a fair and decent settlement.
Senator Cullinane said:
“I had an opportunity to meet the workers today at the protest outside Clerys. They are justifiably upset and angry at the way they have been treated.
“This is a disgraceful situation for any worker to find themselves in, but for this to happen to low paid retail workers is appalling.
“There was no lead-in-time to the closure and the workers and their unions were not consulted.
“These people have families to feed and bills, mortgages, and rents to pay.
“The sudden loss of their livelihood has been compounded by the refusal of the Natrium consortium that took over the company, to meet with trade unions representing the workers.
“I am calling on the government to intervene in this mess. They should be on the side of workers and ensure they get a fair settlement and a meeting with Natrium.”
