Cllr Shane O’Brien welcomes passing of his water charge motion at Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Council meeting

17 June, 2015 - by Shane O'Brien

Dún Laoghaire Sinn Féin Cllr Shane O’Brien has welcomed the passing of his motion that calls on the Chief Executive of DLRCoCo to refuse to allow the local authority to act as a debt collector on behalf of Irish Water.

Speaking after the special council meeting Cllr O'Brien said:

"Irish Water's refusal to issue accurate figures in relation to registration or indeed the payment of bills would indicate that the company and this Government face into yet another crisis - as the company's financial viability and sustainability remains so uncertain."

He added:

"It has been alleged that councils could be used as a way of collecting domestic water charges. This motion gives the Chief Executive of DLRCoCo the authority to inform Minister Alan Kelly that the citizens of our county do not wish to see their Local Authority dragged into this fiasco."
