Kelly welcomes McGurk's bar bombing court decision
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has welcomed a court decision to allow the families of those killed in the McGurk's bar bombing to challenge a report into the atrocity.
"The relatives of the 15 people killed in a UVF bomb attack on McGurk's bar in 1971 were in the High Court to challenge the Historical Enquiries Team review into the bombing.
"I welcome the fact that they have now won the right to challenge that report, which claimed that there was no bias in the original police investigation into the attack.
"The Police Ombudsman published a report in 2011 which supported the families' view that there was investigative bias in the RUC investigation and yet the HET rejected this.
"Now the families have been told there will be a full hearing later this year so that they can seek to have the HET report quashed.
"This marks a further step forward in their campaign to access to the truth of what happened to their loved ones.
"Sinn Féin will continue to support the families killed and injured in the McGurk's bar bombing in their long campaign for justice."
