74 council homes boarded up in Dublin South Central-Cllr. Daithí Doolan

19 June, 2015 - by Daithí Doolan

It was revealed at this week at a local area committee that there are 74 council homes boarded up Dublin South Central. The information was revealed in an answer received by Sinn Féin Cllr. Daithí Doolan.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr. Doolan, said:

"We are in the midst of an unprecedented housing crisis in Dublin. Nowhere is that clearer than here in Dublin South Central where we have over 7,000 on our housing list.

"It was revealed in an answer to me that there are 74 empty council homes, houses and flats, empty in Dublin South Central. I want these to be made ready and allocated as a matter of urgency.

“The government agree with me. Environment Minister Alan Kelly promised last December to make funds available to turn these units around. But unfortunately he has not kept to his promise. Dublin City Council has yet to receive one cent of this money.

"Over 70 families are becoming homeless every month. Yet we have dozens and dozens of houses and flats boarded up. This is unacceptable. These empty units must be turned into homes as a matter of urgency.

"I am asking Minister Alan Kelly to release the promised funding and let us get on with housing people as a matter of urgency."
