Kenny needs to show support and solidarity for Greece at EU summit – Adams

22 June, 2015 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has called on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to show support and solidarity for Greece at tomorrow's EU summit, and to oppose efforts forcing the country out of the eurozone.

Teachta Adams said:

“The Taoiseach needs to show support and solidarity with Greece at the EU summit.

“Greece and Ireland have both had unfair debt burden imposed upon their citizens, but Mr. Kenny has consistently taken the side of the EU elite and the ECB against the people of Greece.

“There has been very little evidence of solidarity in the EU's attitude to Greece or of any understanding of the position of the Greek government.

“The current crisis is not in the interests of the people of Greece or of other EU states.

“The Government of Greece does not want the country to leave the Eurozone and the Irish Government must argue against any EU effort to force Greece out.

“At tomorrow's summit, Enda Kenny must act as a representative of the people of Ireland, and not of the EU elite in Ireland.”
