British must adopt imaginative approach – Murphy
Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy said today the British government need to bring an imaginative approach if we are to resolve the difficulties her government has created.
Conor Murphy was speaking after a meeting to review the implementation of the agreement to date.
Mr Murphy said:
“The financial crisis facing the Executive is a direct result of the Tory cuts to the block grant and threats by the British government to public services and the welfare state.
“However, Theresa Villiers refuses to accept responsibility for the current political crisis despite raiding £1.5 million from the Executive’s block grant and proposing further Tory cuts to public services and welfare protections.
“In recent comments she has also adopted an increasingly partisan approach to the implementation of the Stormont House Agreement.
“If Theresa Villiers wants to make a positive contribution to the political process then she needs to end this one-sided approach. She needs to bring imaginative solutions to the problems her government has created.
“It’s important that all political parties and civic society stand together in the face of the austerity agenda of the Tory government in the interests of the people who elect us to deliver public services and protections on their behalf.”
