Derry vote a sign of growing support for marriage equality– Fearon

26 June, 2015 - by Megan Fearon

Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has said there is a growing support for marriage equality across the North.

Ms Fearon said;

"It is clear that more and more people across Ireland want to see marriage equality.

"The fantastic scenes witnessed after the vote in favour of marriage equality in the referendum in the South showed the extent of support for equal marriage.

"Tomorrow tens of thousands of people will gather in Dublin for the city's pride festival, which is expected to be larger than usual this year following the recent historic referendum result.

"This week Derry and Strabane District Council voted in favour of a Sinn Féin motion calling for marriage equality to be extended to the North.

"Equality should be the bedrock of any society and it is high-time that couples, regardless of their sexuality, should be allowed to marry everywhere throughout the island."
